Doctoral Symposium

The Doctoral Symposium of the ICPE conference is a forum for PhD students in performance engineering to present and discuss their PhD research topics, plans, methods, and preliminary results, and to obtain early feedback from the community. In addition, it provides them an opportunity to get familiar with the performance engineering community as early as possible.

PhD students, in particular those in the early to mid stages of their PhD projects, can submit PhD research proposals, and the selected students will present their work in front of an audience consisting of both their peers and experienced professors and senior engineers from industry. Each of the students selected for presentation will be assigned such an expert who will comment on his/her proposed research after the presentation.

Submission guidelines

Each submission needs to have a PhD student with at least one year of his PhD project remaining as the sole author or as the primary author with his/her supervisor(s) as co-authors. Submitted PhD research proposals should be in the field of computer performance engineering (for topics of interest, please see the Call for Contributions), and should include at least:

  • A problem statement and its motivation
  • An explanation of the novelty and the relevance to the ICPE community of the research
  • Related work and their shortcomings that the research intends to address
  • A research plan and timeline
  • Research approach and methods
  • Expected, and if applicable, preliminary results

Submissions must be in the standard ACM format for conference proceedings. The proposals should not exceed 4 pages double column including references. Accepted proposals will be included in a separate workshop proceedings. Authors are required to adhere to the ACM Policy and Procedures on Plagiarism as well as to the ACM Policy on Prior Publication and Simultaneous Submissions
